Long Term Goals
- Completing kindergarten. Well duh, that's stating the obvious, I know.
- Making sure Batman is prepared for 1st Grade, whether he's taught at home or in our local school.
- Bringing SuperT (going to be 3) and WP (Warrior Princess, my niece going to be 4) along for the ride... Getting them prepared for kindergarten in the coming years.
Pre August Preparations
- Organize my craft Storage. Ok, so that's not directly school related, but indirectly it is. Currently my dining room is overflowing with some educational materials, lots of crafts (most of which aren't part of current projects) and an overflow of papers. This is the only spot we can use right now for school. I don't want it to look like a craft/office/school/dining room. I want it to look like a dining room and be used for learning, and as a temporary craft space. Meaning at dinner time everything else is put away. My storage space for crafts is in the basement. I'm making great headway. I hope to put all of our school stuff own there too, minus what we use on a daily basis. Then each night I can bring the stuff we need upstairs. I know... It's a lot of trudging up and down stairs (but that burns calories right?) into my least favorite room of the house. Ugh. I can combine that with laundry routines though, and that's a plus. No excuse to get behind!
- Get all my paperwork in and official. I guess I can't really do this early for some reason.... The paperwork etc wont be available to print until May I think. Now I need to go check on that again!
- Make, prep and purchase things that will aide in school. Curriculum is the big thing. There are tons of ideas on Pinterest and blogs. Some I can remember right now are sacks that hang on chairs, milk crates turned into seats with storage, and various other things that look like fun.
- Break the news to family and friends. That's the one that stresses me out. Even though I'm confident in the decision to home school, not everyone will like it or agree that it's the best choice. In fact I know a few moms who actually feel like I'm judging them when I do anything too different from their own parenting choices. Like breastfeeding or cloth diapers.
Spiritual Goals
- Daily bible reading no matter what. How can I train up my kids in the way they should go (Prov 22:6) if I can't even manage to be disciplined myself. I started, or restarted I should say, in January. I've done really good since mid January. I also started a book study with the ladies at church on Ruth, based on the Bible but guided by Liz Higgins through her book 'The Girl's Still Got It!'. I also added a daily devotion for the boys on top of their bedtime Bible stories.
- Prayerfully supporting my family. 1 Samuel 12:23. Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against The Lord by ceasing to pray for you; but I will instruct you in the good and right way.
- Memorizing scripture. I'm not sure where I will start, either on Proverbs 31 or passages pertaining to my various trouble zones. I'm not ready to be open enough to bare that much of my soul on my blog yet....
Preparing The Littles
- We haven't had much real structure as far as daily activities, really just moving from this to this based on what we feel like that day. I want to start by adding one thing at a time, like getting up at a certain time. This will be easy enough on them, they're up between 6-7 every morning. I only get up then because I have to, haha! I want to start getting up and exercising before they're up. Then we'll add an actual routine to our morning.
- Following instructions. This has been a big concern for me with Batman. He's pretty smart but doesn't follow instruction well. Don't get me wrong, he is well behaved. He just doesn't listen to all the steps starting a task. I figure we can get some good practice in using arts and crafts, Legos, games etc
- Increasing the time they (Batman especially) can stay focused on a project. Dizzy has great focus.... If he wants to. But he'll need to learn to focus on what he DOESN'T want to when needed.
Well, now the goals are written for all to see. Now it's time to go off and accomplish something!
